Towson is a suburb of Baltimore founded in 1768 as an affluent residential community for business owners and merchants working in the city or participating in the Port trade. Although an unincorporated municipality, Towson has served as the county seat since 1854 and continues to be the center of local government and related professional, educational and financial services. Over time Towson has maintained its residential base and added office, retail and recreational components making it a self-contained town and a vibrant thriving regional center.

Towson’s 14 square miles are located at the northern most exit of the Baltimore Beltway, a 20 minute drive to any part of the metropolitan area. In addition, almost every major artery passes through or close by Towson and puts us less than a 20 minute drive to the Baltimore Inner Harbor and Central Business District, 45 minutes to the U.S. Naval Academy and the historic town of Annapolis and one hour from the steps of the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C. Futhermore, the Baltimore-Washington International Airport, our gateway to the world, is only a 30 minute drive.

Although Towson is located just outside of a major city, it offers a very safe, friendly and almost quaint atmosphere; a rare blend of “county charm” in an educated and sophisticated environment. Towson is a very active and energetic community which protects its traditions, appreciates its well being and is planning for its continued prosperity and orderly growth.
