Since
1854, Towson has served as the seat for Baltimore County
and as such, is the center of local government. Towson
is an unincorporated town, yet is part of a charter form
of government with a county executive and seven councilmatic
districts which serves the 599 square miles and 759,000
residents of Baltimore County. The Towson district has
its own councilman who represents the community in local
matters as well as representatives in the Maryland Senate
and House of Representatives who protect and promote the
area on the state level.

offices of every county agency, department and governing body.
The Baltimore County judicial system is centered in Towson,
as well as the headquarters of the Police, Fire and Safety

the transitioning of Towson from a rural borough to a modern,
